About the Artist
expandS.STEIN Workbags grew out of Sherry's love for her work, and a desire to take it with her wherever she goes, comfortably and in style.
Sherry has a degree in industrial design from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, but her design career began at the age of nine in a small town in northern Colorado, where she and her sister Char outfitted Toni dolls with elaborate "Scheherazade" and "Gone with the Wind" clothing collections made on their miniature Singer sewing machine.
Artist Statement
expand"NEVER BE AFRAID OF WORK" was one of my father's favorite sayings, and he consequently raised three very industrious daughters! My sisters' and my work has been one of the great joys of our lives, and transporting our gear around has been a constant part of our respective jobs as designers and photographers.
As an Industrial Designer by trade, I began designing custom gear bags to transport the tools for our various career ventures - custom travel camera cases for my sister Jude, the photographer; the ultimate design materials and i-Book tote for Char, fashion designer; and for myself - I have designed everything from expedition duffels to a tiny leather Mini-Rollie camera case.
My greatest inspiration for workbag design has been the purely utilitarian bags from hardware and Army surplus stores. My collection of canvas bricklayer's bags, carpenter's tool belts, and my antique leather doctor's satchel all share the same sense of purpose and history, all made from natural materials that become more interesting with wear and age.
S.STEIN workbags began with my quest to design a perfect, compact bag to hold all my daily essentials, plus a little bit more.
